Meet the Team
Karen Meyers
Owner
Karen has been sewing for as long as she can remember and her professional career has always included a needle and thread in some form or another. Before moving to the UK in 2013 she worked as a sample maker for a bespoke clothing label in Atlanta GA, co-founded “Fiber and Fun Summer Sewing Camp” for teens and created her own range of one of a kind accessories from vintage and upcycled materials which she sold online and at Art Festivals in the Southeastern United States. Karen opened Stitchworks in 2017 to provide Woodbridge with a high quality alterations studio and to spread the love and art of sewing to the next generation of kids.
Katy Spall
Assistant
Katy grew up in a theatre family and her interest in sewing began early when she worked together with her mum to create the costumes she wore on stage during her childhood. She studied dance at Uni and then went on to work for the National Theatre costume store. The draw of theatre pulled her back so she subsequently became Wardrobe and Costume Manager for West End and touring shows including Message in a Bottle, The Cher Show and Six the Musical, which took her touring all around the UK and Europe.
Several years ago she moved back to her hometown of Woodbridge to be close to family and friends and is putting her sewing and fitting skills to good use in the Stitchworks alterations studio and is also teaching the kids classes. She’s inspiring a new generation of sewists and the kids love Katy!
Theatre and music will always be in her blood so in her spare time she runs a community singing group and is writing a Pantomime which will be produced in 2026.
Ligita Sims
Assistant
Ligita Sims joined the Stitchworks team in 2021 just in time as things got really busy after a year of Covid lockdowns.
Her strong aesthetic sense and experience with knitwear and soft furnishings make her an excellent addition to the team. She loves anything linen and has a side gig as and embroidery artist. In her spare time she enjoys a frosty, wintry walk.
Laura Bailey
Assistant
Laura learned to sew as a child with encouragement from her mum and Grandma. Her childhood memories are full of wonderful AmdDram productions where she performed on stage and also had a role behind the scenes helping out with costumes. This led her to complete a degree in Costume design from Nottingham Trent in 2021. She then spent the next 4 years touring on cruise ships as a wardrobe assistant visiting exotic ports of call , making friends and honing her skills. She joined the Stitchworks team in January of 2026 as an alterations assistant bringing along her calm demeanour, “can do” attitude and fun sense of humour.
Freya Balding
Assistant
Freya has been helping out on Saturdays at Stitchworks since 2023. She’s currently studying for her A Levels but has yet to decide on her future creative career which hopefully with include sewing in some way! In addition to her studies and Saturday job Freya stays busy playing lead roles in school musicals, sewing up denim bags at home, camping out in freezing weather to achieve her DoE Gold badge and trying to keep up with her 4 energetic and crazy cats at home.
